My Brother Jeff

My brother, Jeff (31), has been in the Intensive Care Unit at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds since Thursday morning (10/28). Last Friday, he developed cold symptoms which became progressively worse through the weekend. His fiancé, Crystal, has been caring for him, but he became dehydrated and weak on Monday and Tuesday. He fell a few times in attempts to reach the bathroom. Crystal called for emergency assistance on Thursday morning.

An ambulance arrived and transported Jeff to the ER, where they conducted CPR on him three times over an hour. The doctors are still not 100% sure of the cause. I'm not a doctor, but what I collect here is that his body became weak and dehydrated, and apparently some kind of bacteria has poisoned his system (sepsis.) He has been unconscious and set up to a breathing assistance machine with a tube down his throat, IVs, etc.

On Thursday, he was in bad shape: Low blood pressure, low blood sugar and other vitals needed to be restored. There was 300cc of liquid surrounding his heart which was removed from his body. He's had an EKG and a CT scan, and has a team of good doctors and RNs watching over him. His vitals are stable today, but is not yet alert to where he responds with eye movement, etc.

Jeff and I have the same father, but are "brothers of a different mother." ;) His Mom and brother flew in last night from Phoenix, and stayed the night in the hospital. Crystal and I are taking the day shift watching over Jeff. He's pretty sick. We're really not sure how soon he's going to pull through on this. My hope is that he soon will soon become conscious and responsive to our voices.

Thanks in advance for all your support and good thoughts.
